Little Heidi is taken by her aunt Dete to her grandfather, the Alm-Öhi, in the Swiss mountains. The old man is grumpy and doesn't want to take in a child - but Heidi is not afraid. With her cheerful and inquisitive nature, she slowly wins his heart.
Heidi soon feels at home on the mountain pasture: she sleeps on a cozy hay bed under the roof, wakes up to the sound of birdsong and fresh mountain air and discovers the vastness of nature.
